Harry James Potter is the protagonist of the critically-acclaimed Harry Potter series of novels by J. K. Rowling.

According to the books, he was born on the 31 July, 1980. Nick-named, The Boy Who Lived, he is the only child of James Potter and Lily Potter née Evans, who were killed by the dark wizard, Tom Riddle (a.k.a. Lord Voldemort), in an attempt to kill Harry.

By the age of eleven, he discovered he belonged to a more diverse world than the one we are used to; of witches and wizards, and attended the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Throughout the series he is constantly overshadowed by Lord Voldemort, having a mysterious connection with him since the death of his parents. And by the last book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, he is finally able to kill him and break the connection.

Since then, he has gone into work as one of the Aurors (the elite force of wizarding officers), and has recently become head of the department.

He has also been known to have married Ginevra "Ginny" Weasley, and has acquired three children - James Sirius Potter, Albus Severus Potter, and Lily Luna Potter - who were all named after important people in his life.

James Sirius Potter is also the central character in the James Potter series by G. Norman Lippert.
