Rose Granger-Weasley is the first child and only daughter of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. She has a younger brother named Hugo. She first attended Hogwarts in 2017, and was sorted into Gryffindor like her parents. She is one of the main characters in the series, and a close confident and friend of James during his years at Hogwarts.
Biography[]
Childhood[]
Rose was presumably born sometime between 2005 and 2006. It is evident that Rose was good friends with her cousins, in particular the Potters and Lucy Weasley.
Education at Hogwarts[]
First Year[]
After Zane's departure from Hogwarts, Rose took her place in the trio that was formerly James, Zane and Ralph. Rose supported James through his second year, and helped him start a Defence Club because they believed Kendric Debellows' methods of Artis Decerto weren't useful. She was upset and angry that Debellows thought girls were weak and could not participate in Artis Decerto, but had her wish of having a woman teaching Artis Decerto satisfied when the Grey Lady came along.
When Scorpius was sorted into Unlike with Rose, James immediately took a disliking towards him, while Rose was open on the matter, going so far as suggesting him to teach their Defense Club. During the year, Zane frequently popped up in Hogwarts, albeit only visually, needing someone to shoot spells at him to keep him there. James takes notice of Rose fancying Zane, noting how Rose waited until Zane was gone to make a negative comment.
Etymology[]
Rose is likely named after the flower of the same name, widely prized for its fragrance and beauty. Being the national flower of England, roses are often considered symbols of love and have historically been associated with goddesses such as Aphrodite (which may symbolise her parents' relationship with one another). Red-colored roses are particularly associated with romance, and could allude to the classic Weasley red hair.
